Frida Kahlo is a cultural icon not only in Mexico but around the world. Her image has become ubiquitous on t-shirts, iPhone cases, posters and backpacks. In our fascination, have we taken a complex woman and reduced her to a caricature? I struggled with how I should represent her, until I found a dusty Mexican folk art Ferris wheel on the top shelf of my studio. There are many Fridas and in this work, they all go round and round in our imagination.
Reclaimed Mexican Folk Art, Fabric, Fine Art Papers, Acrylic Paint Broken Jewelry, Toys, String Lights and other Ephemera.
